Best ATT Cordless Phone 2012
Cordless Phones Review

Which is the best ATT cordless phone in 2012? It's an easy decision as there are just two ATT home phone options to choose between. They are both excellent value. The big difference between them is that one is expandable and the other is a basic dual handset cordless phone.

AT&T CL82x09 Cordless Phone

The "x" in the model number references the number of handsets in the package: 2, 3, 4, 5. Up to twelve handsets can share a single phone jack.

ATT Cordless Phone

The Pros

Like all ATT phones the CL82xxx range is competitively priced. It does all the basics and cannot be faulted in the areas of: range, battery life or voice clarity. It has a large easily read display and well separated big buttons.

Speed dial numbers, call history and phone book are shared across all handsets and hence always in synch. Amazing as it may seem not all cordless phones have this feature. In the case of those that don't, users must manually synchronize phonebooks so that all handsets are up to date. We doubt that many bother.

The CL82xxx range is without doubt the most popular ATT home phone. It's got the essential features that consumers look for in cordless home phones. Is it perfect? No, there are better alternatives, but they carry a bigger price tag and have additional features that may not be required.

The Cons

  • Surprisingly the AT&T CL82x09 handsets do not feature headset jacks and are not supplied with belt clips. On the other hand the speakerphones work well.

  • Whenever power is lost the phone's date and time settings are lost.

  • To answer calls users must press a button as well as lift a handset.
  • When examined closely most cordless phones at the lower price points have shortcomings. The above issues are generally not show stoppers.

AT&T EL51209 Dual Handset Cordless Phone

It's one of the best cheap cordless phones, but not as good as the VTech CS6219-2. They are almost identical phones, except the VTech cordless phone is cheaper and expandable. They are both manufactured by VTech.

    Summary

The latest ATT cordless phones occupy a middle ground. They are adequate, but neither the cheapest nor the best cordless phones. They continue to score impressive ratings because they are well made DECT 6.0 phones and are popular with users of the ATT home phone service.
