Cordless Phone Reviews and Ratings

Panasonic KX-TG6702B
Two Line Cordless Phone - Cordless Answering Machine

The Panasonic KX-TG6702B is a high end 5.8 GHz 2 line cordless phone system. It set the benchmark for call clarity, range and extended battery life. That was before DECT 6.0 technology superseded 5.8 GHz phones and brought prices down. They are still sought out by those who have owned or used them in the past and are willing to pay a premium for a top rated cordless phone.

Best 2 Line Cordless Phone System

In early 2009 Panasonic released the KX-TG939xT. It was Panasonic's first DECT 6.0 two line cordless phone and the successor to the KX-TG6702B. At the time DECT 6.0 technology was used almost exclusively on single line cordless home phones. The move caught Panasonic's competitors napping. Uniden didn't release it's corresponding phone until over twelve months later i.e. the DECT4086. It wasn't competitive with either the Panasonic KX-TG9382T or it's predecessor.

Panasonic KX-TG6702B - Pros and Cons

Pros:

1. This Panasonic 5.8 cordless phone delivers excellent clarity, range, security and freedom from interference.

2. It's a two line cordless conference phone - capable of supporting 3 way calls.

3. It's a 2 line answering machine courtesy of an integrated 60-minute digital answering system.

4. Antenna lights up to give notice of incoming calls and messages even when handsets are set to silent mode.

5. All handsets are speaker phones.

6. Expandable up to eight (8) cordless handsets.

Cons:

1. Only gives notification of messages left on the phone's inbuilt answering system. Not an issue provided you don't require notification of voicemail messages as well.

2. "Missed Call" displayed on all handsets not used to pick up calls.

3. Missed call list must be individually cleared on each handset.

4. Handsets cannot be used to make calls or speak when docked in their chargers. This would be a useful feature for users who regularly make extended conference calls. Unlikely to be an issue except in the case of seriously "long" calls.

The negatives of this Panasonic digital cordless phone system are niggles rather than show stoppers. It's a robust and dependable phone system with no major flaws.

Competitive Two Line Cordless Phone Systems

There are other 5.8 GHz two line cordless phones, but not many have integrated digital answering machines; for example the Uniden TRU8866 and TRU9466 don't have answering systems.

Direct competitors include:

Uniden TRU9496 - a 2 line corded cordless phone system with integrated telephone answering system - up to 15 minutes of recording time.

AT&T TL76108 - a 2 line corded cordless phone system with integrated telephone answering system: 25 min; 2 Voice Mailboxes.

In our view the best cordless phone in the 5.8 GHz niche is a toss up between the Panasonic KX-TG6702B and the Uniden TRU9496.
