VTech DS6321 Review

by Mark McNulty
(U.S.)

I am looking to convert my landline tel number to a mobile number and get rid of my landline service. I would then use a Bluetooth cordless phone to allow my mobile phone to serve as my home
telephone.

To this end, I purchased the new vTech DS6321. Good features include:

1) up to 12 handsets
2) easy bluetooth setup
3) Common phone directory used by base/all handsets.

However, I will be returning the device due to the following:

a) Cannot name the handsets. The system assigns a number (i.e. 1, 2, etc.)to each handset. How do I know what handset to transfer to or page without a meaningful name (such as "kitchen", "living room").

b) The answering system does not answer a call coming in through the Bluetooth-connected cell phone. It only answers calls through a landline (but in my case, I don't have a landline). So, my home cell phone is answered by the service provided by the cell phone company. Therefore, I need to dial into the service instead of the answering system. Why can't there be an option that allows the user to specify in the setup whether the Bluetooth phone should be answered by the built-in answering
machine?

c) There is no "Do not disturb" button on the base. Such a feature would allow a quick and easy silencing of the entire system (base and handsets) which is helpful when the kids are sleeping.

I hope these improvements will be added to a future model. If you know of any DECT 6.0 that is Bluetooth enabled and includes the good parts of the DS6321 plus the missing features I mentioned above.

I would appreciate feedback on the above from other visitors to the site.

Mark
