The Best Waterproof Cordless Phone
The Ultimate in Cool Electronic Gadgets for Men and Women

Until receiving a waterproof cordless phone as a gift, we had no idea that they could be so useful. It was a Uniden handset for an existing DECT 6.0 cordless phone. It now serves as an outdoor intercom as well as to connect my workshop with the outside world. Not only is it a robust solution, but it also required no phone jack wiring.

Must Have Gadgets

However, waterproof phones are not just gadgets for guys. We subsequently bought two more handsets to use at pool side, in the garden, hot tub and and even in the steam room. Our teenage daughter also tells us they're cool electronic gadgets. That's because she's been known to take a cordless phone in the shower and bath to avoid missing one of those crisis calls that teenagers get. It means we no longer need to replace drowned handsets, so we also think they're cool.

Uniden Waterproof Phones

Uniden phones are clearly the best waterproof cordless phones. They're tough phones designed to comply with JIS7 waterproof specifications, which means they can immersed in 1 meter of water for 30 minutes and still work. They look and feel like a quality product, but without being industrial. It's a niche that Uniden has clearly set out to dominate with an extensive range of options. They include Uniden 5.8 GHz, DECT and 900 MHz phones. Furthermore, if you already own a Uniden DECT or 5.8 GHz expandable phone, you will almost certainly find a compatible waterproof Uniden handset.

At first glance the Uniden phones have a very striking color scheme. To our mind it's appropriate to the locations where waterproof phones will be used and certainly reduces the possibility of losing a handset.

Panasonic Splash Resistant Cordless Phone

Interestingly the company that makes the Tough Book laptop decided against making a Uniden style "tough phone." The Panasonic KX-TG9361B is a drop resistant and splash resistant DECT 6.0 phone. It looks nothing like a Tough Book or the rugged Uniden waterproof phones. In fact at a glance it's almost indistinguishable from other Panasonic cordless telephones. It's a phone that will survive ordinary household traumas without standing out from the crowd.

Basically Panasonic has gone for a different market than Uniden, which was a smart smooth because the latter clearly "owns" the waterproof cordless phone niche.
