Best Wireless Phone Headsets
Which is the Best Hands Free Device?

There is a world of difference between the worst and best wireless phone headsets. We have reviewed the latest releases and arrived at a shot list of three. They all deliver excellent call quality, but there are other considerations. These include: comfort, talk-time, wearing options, range, noise canceling technology, weight, durability and looks. It's also essential that they operate with both traditional and VoIP telephone services.

1. Plantronics CS70N

The CS70N is in our view the best wireless telephone headset, but it's a close contest between these three options.

Wireless Phone Headsets
  • Excellent range - 300 feet.
  • DECT 6.0 technology eliminates most types of potential interference.
  • Talk time - 6 hours & stand by - 20 hours.
  • Simple to set up - less than 5 minutes.
  • Noise canceling headset (the CS60 didn't have this feature).
  • Light weight and comfortable enough to wear all day.
  • Unlike many of the alternatives the CS70N is built survive years the rough and tumble of daily use. It can be expected to last for years rather than months.

    The negatives:

  • It's not a Bluetooth headset - will not pair with a Bluetooth cell phone.
  • The only wearing option is over-the-ear.
  • As with all wireless telephone headsets, a handset lifter is required to answer calls when users aren't at a desk.

    2. Jabra GN9350e

Another excellent wireless phone headset that's hard to fault. The main reason why we prefer the Plantronics unit is that we believe it's slightly more rugged. On the other hand if you require a unit with multiple wearing styles this is the unit for you.

    noise canceling headset
  • Excellent range - 350 feet.
  • Wideband audio 6.8 KHz.
  • Talk time - 9 hours.
  • Simple to set up - less than 5 minutes.
  • noise cancelling headset.
  • Three wearing styles.
  • Light weight and comfortable enough to wear all day.
  • The negatives:

  • It's not a Bluetooth headset - will not pair with a Bluetooth cell phone.
  • The docking mechanism is a little flimsy.
  • 3. Sennheiser VMXOffice

Sennheiser makes brilliant audio products and the VMXOffice is no exception. A more versatile headset than the other two as it can be used with a desktop phone, PC or Bluetooth enabled cell phone. It's a headset that can used almost anywhere, whether at home, office or in the car. It's also a Skype headset.

    Bluetooth wireless headsets
  • Bluetooth headset.
  • Range - 100 feet, because it uses Bluetooth.
  • Talk time - 5 hours & stand by 100 hours.
  • Simple to set up - less than 5 minutes.
  • Noise canceling microphone.
  • Over the ear only.
  • Light weight and comfortable enough to wear all day.
  • The VMXOffice is a compact high quality unit. It's in a league of it's own as there is currently nothing else that delivers the same level of versatility, however there are trade-offs.

    The negatives:

  • It's range is substantially less than competitive products.
  • Five hours of talk time may not be sufficient for everyone.
